Welcome to the

Learning resource center

Located on the first floor of the César E. Chávez Library, the Learning Resource Center provides equitable access to academic support services, experiential learning spaces, and technology resources that strengthen and sustain student success.

 

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) houses three academic support services: Tutoring Center (TC), ESL Lab, and the Open Computer Lab (OCL), where students can work independently or request one-to-one tutoring in a wide variety of academic subject areas.

The LRC's tutoring centers are certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). The CRLA is an international authority that certifies organizations and individual tutors who meet its professional training and review standards.

The Learning Community Space is located in the LRC in Room L-106. This space is designed for individual and small-group use, as well as Umoja and Puente community meetings, classes, and events. The space is managed by Donntay Moore-Thomas (Donntay.Moore-Thomas@sjcc.edu). Umoja and Puente students may use the space when it is not otherwise occupied for an Umoja and/or Puente event.

Frequently asked questions (faq)

Tutoring Center (TC): Provides one-on-one and online tutoring across various subjects, including math, sciences, English, accounting, and foreign languages. Tutoring sessions are available in-person or online, with 24/7 access through NetTutor via Canvas.

The ESL Lab provides specialized support for students who are learning English as a second language. It focuses on developing language skills to help students succeed in their coursework and communication.

The Open Computer Lab offers over 100 open-access workstations with internet access and essential software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. The lab also includes ADA-compliant stations to ensure accessibility for all students.

The LRC is situated on the first floor of the César E. Chávez Library at SJCC. For the Summer 2025 semester (June 16, 2025 - July 24, 2025), the operating hours are:

  • Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • The LRC is closed on weekends and school holidays.

Students can access tutoring services in several ways:

  • In-Person Tutoring: Visit the Tutoring Center during operating hours for drop-in sessions or schedule an appointment.
