Mathematics Overview

The AS-T degree in Mathematics for Transfer equips students with a robust foundation to pursue higher education in diverse fields, including mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, economics, and business.

To successfully complete the major, it is mandatory to earn a grade of "C" or higher in all the coursework undertaken.

Transfer Programs

Transfer-level math courses designed for students who plan to major in business, education, or liberal arts include the following:
  • College Algebra for Liberal Arts (Math 20)
  • Mathematics for Elementary Education (Math 52)
  • Finite Mathematics (Math 61)
  • Calculus for Business and the Social Sciences (Math 62)
  • Elementary Statistics (Math 63)

This program is designed for students who need advanced mathematics courses and includes the following courses:
  • Pre-Calculus Algebra (Math 21)
  • Trigonometry (Math 22)
  • Precalculus and Trigonometry (Math 25)
  • Discrete Mathematics (Math 70)
  • Calculus I with Analytic Geometry (Math 71)
  • Calculus II with Analytic Geometry (Math 72)
  • Multivariable Calculus (Math 73)
  • Differential Equations (Math 78
  • Linear Algebra (Math 79)
At Leland High School, we offer Multivariable Calculus during the fall semester and Differential Equations during the spring semester. Please note that graphing calculators are a mandatory requirement for all our listed courses. Additionally, certain courses may integrate the use of the Maple mathematical software package.

Online Homework Systems 

Some math sections use one of the following online homework systems: 

Two-unit just-in-time support courses have been established to support students in completing a transfer-level mathematics course within the first year of enrollment at San José City College. 

  • Some sections of Elementary Statistics (Math 63) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Elementary Statistics (Math 63X).
  • Some sections of Precalculus Algebra (Math 21) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Precalculus Algebra (Math 21X).
  • Some sections of College Algebra  (Math 20) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for College Algebra (Math 20X).
  • Some sections of Precalculus Algebra and Trigonometry (Math 25) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Precalculus Algebra and  Trigonometry (Math 25X)
